Water damage by Cedar Hill neighborhood

Cedar Hill is one city with very different ground. A custom home on a wooded slope near the lake and an 1880s house downtown get wet in different ways.

The lie of the land

Why this city does not behave as one place

The city rises to about 800 feet on an Austin chalk uplift, then falls toward Joe Pool Lake on the west, where Eagle Ford shale takes over.[1] Streets on the slopes move water quickly, and homes near natural creek lines can see that water arrive at once.

Housing changes too. The city's walking tour lists downtown-area homes from the 1880s and 1890s, while a local guide describes custom homes near the lake and 1990s and early 2000s tract homes east of Highway 67.[2][3] Plumbing materials, finishes and foundations follow those dates, which is why these pages are written separately.

If your neighborhood is not listed

Cedar Hill has many more subdivisions than the four covered here, including Waterford Oaks and Stonewood Heights, and the absence of a page says nothing about coverage. Call and give your ZIP code or street, and the contractor will tell you on that call whether they work at your address.

County

Which county applies

Most of Cedar Hill is in Dallas County, while a small southern part is in Ellis County.[1]
